Hello all ,

I have a MTH 1694 prewar ives style engine with PS2. The engine works fine in conventional mode and with a full DCS system but it won't work with a DCS remote commander. I just had a factory reset done to it but no luck. I'm charging the battery now wondering if that will help. I have 4 PS2 engines and this is the only one that won't work correctly so I know my DCS remote commander is fine as well as the tracks. Any ideas on what could be happening with my engine?

Thank you ,

Sam

If the battery was not good, the Reset may not have written to memory.  It needs to play full shutdown sounds after power is removed.  Additionally there were recommendations to have Volume up full when do a factory reset.  Once power is turned off, you want to remove train from DCS track so it is not readded.  G

Ah ok, good to know, I had NJCJOE help me out last night with a factory reset but he noticed that my battery seemed low as after he shut off power to the engine there was only about 3 seconds of sound playing. So it looks like I need a new battery then I need to get a factory reset done with the volume up. Is there anyway to perform a reset by either disconnecting the battery or pushing a reset inside the engine or is my only choice using a full DCS system?

Use an alkaline battery just to do the reset, but don't leave it in there as it may damage the charging circuit.

Hi John,

Sorry but I'm not following you, are you saying I just need to hook up an alkaline battery and that will cause the reset or are you saying throw in an alkaline battery, do a factory reset with a full DCS and than replace it with the proper battery?

Thanks,

Sam

The latter Sam.  I'm suggesting you do the factory reset with the alkaline battery in using the full DCS.  Then you remove that battery.  Obviously, if you get the proper NiMh 9V battery, you can skip the alkaline battery step, it's just a crutch.  Clearly, the right way to do this is simply install the correct battery.

Got it, thanks! I'm going to call around to a couple LHS today and see if anyone has a new battery and a full DCS system. So far I'm not having much lunch in north Jersey. It seems if it doesn't say Lionel I'm out in the cold lol.
