PS2 loco cannot be seen on Variable track....

Remove the caboose on that track if on at the same time, to see if it is degrading the DCS signal for the engine.

I'll have to try that when I get home from work.  I was afraid I'd hurt the engine somehow at first, but then when I put the engine on another line it ran great.  Maybe a good track cleaning and such will fix the problem.  I also need to figure out exactly how to set that track as a "Fixed" line instead of Variable, though I did it once before and I'm pretty sure that hasn't changed.

Menu/System/DCS Setup, select the variable track and press the FXD soft key until it displays "Track in fixed mode".

Well I looked in your book Barry and couldn't figure it out.  I made sure the track is set to "Fixed" and once in a while the engine would blow its horn when I was switching back and forth.  But long story short, I switched my wires to Variable Output/Input 2 and now everything works!  

 

So, since power was going to the track on channel 1, but no DCS signals appeared to be....... could I have fried just the DCS part of Variable Channel 1?  I was planning on putting in one more line for my subway and if I fried that DCS channel I guess I cannot!  

First, make certain that the DCS signal is on for all channels: Menu/System/DCS Setup and press the AON soft key.

 

If that doesn't do it, and the channel is a problem but other channels when substituted for that channel work OK, there is a problem on that channel, most likely with the DCS signal generator.

Awwwww Barry!   I was afraid you would say that.  I did read through your book trying to troubleshoot but was unable to find the problem.  I might have to figure out how to make it variable and just run conventional trains on one of the lines.  Sigh.....
