Has anyone else had this problem? Loco runs fine until I press Smoke "ON" then it just speeds up, so fast that I have to quickly press Smoke "OFF". Every thing else seems to work fine. Also, I noticed that the lights on other trains on the same variable channel pulsate while the loco is going nuts??????

Thanks Barry! I will attempt to "fix" it. Probably won't happen for a while because I will be on the road the next couple of weeks. However, it is good to know there is a solution to my dilema.

Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that my friend's problem was the same as yours, however, it's a place to start.
Have you opened the smoke unit up before this problem? What engine is it?
The engine is a Railking Commodore 4-6-4. I have never had the shell off the chassis.
I am back from my business trip and can now get back to my problem. In answer to Marty Fitzhenry the engine is a Railking 4-6-4 Dryfus Hudson. I have never had the shell off this unit. I have had it for about 4 years and it has always run great. It started acting up after I thouroughly cleaned the wheels, pick-up rollers and track with goof off and a abrasive rubber "eraser".
