Having done upgrades to 2 PS1 engines, a Weaver engine, and a Williams engine, one feature I wish was available is the ability to adjust the speed reference in the upgrade software. There are unit-to-unit differences in gear ratio, wheel size, flywheel size, etc., that can cause pretty noticeable speed differences. I have tried adjusting the number of stripes on the flywheel, but this is crude at best.

For PS2 upgrade kits it's probably too late, but maybe this feature can be included in PS3 upgrade kits?

Hopefully,

Gary F.

My brother Dave has developed a precise procedure for calculating and printing custom tachometer strips for Proto 2 conversions.  He has put it up on his web site here.

The more recent Proto3 HO locomotives have a software update that allows custom speed maps to be used when operated in DCC mode.  It certainly would be possible to do the same with Proto3 locomotives in O for DCS mode.  Or, it might be possible to allow a correction factor to be entered for converted locomotives.  The problem holding back added software features like that seems to be the remote.  The current remote is out of memory to add updated features.  MTH has said that a new remote is in the works.  If you are attending the DCS users group meeting at York perhaps you could ask this question or submit it on line for Barry to ask.
