My Son received a MTH NYC RS-11 with PS3 electronics from Santa yesterday.  I'm very impressed.  The Alco prime mover sounds are clear and crisp, he loves the bell/horn sounds, it starts moving at around 3 MPH even before a good break in and I had no issues loading the engine into the remote even though I have a pre-rev L TIU.  Signal strengh is 10's all around.

Only issue is the smoke unit started to melt the plastic shell believe it or not.  I piece of Aluminum tape to defuse the heat in the area and running the smoke unit at it's lowest setting should eliminate future damage.

For sure it's a design flaw.  I caught it early enough and it's hardly noticeable.  To send it to MTH for a new shell which more than likely they don't have and more than likely due to the design flaw would happen again in my opinion is not worth it.

I'll give them a buzz and talk to them at the next Train show.  I'm sure the Aluminum tape will prevent any future melting.  For some odd reason they did not place the output of the smoke unit directly under the stack.  It's off set by a half a inch with a scope/chamber to get the smoke to the stack and the fluid to the smoke unit.  Directly under the output of the smoke unit is where the melting has accrued.  MTH could of turned the smoke unit 180 deg in place and would not have needed that scope.
