Is it normal for PS3 engines to show "low battery" under the info display? I tried two different PS3 engines and both showed "Low Battery"

PS-3 doesn't have a battery in the system. One of the DCS 'gurus' will have to chime in here..

All 11 of mine do..There are no batteries in PS 3 that I know of

My PS3 engines do the same. PS3 engines have a capacitors instead of a battery. The capacitors hold a lesser charge and that's why you get the message. That's why when you start a PS3 engine you initially set the transformer to 10 to 11v for 30 seconds so the capacitors can charge up.
Thought it was strange that it shows low battery when there is no battery.
I wonder what the "low bat" would read if you had a bad cap?
"Battery OK" on PS2 use to mean the charging system was working in the engine.
Maybe "Low Bat" on PS3 means "No Battery"
Not sure, but is it possible the batteries in the remote itself are low?

Andy,
Not sure, but is it possible the batteries in the remote itself are low?
No.
Early PS-3 read low. Software was not upgraded to properly read that status. No worries it is fine. G
Re: message on remote for low remote battery? My DCS remote showed a "maintenance required" message the other day; couldn't guess whether it applied to the loco active at that time, or the remote. However, when I found all the problems causing that day's headaches, low batteries in the remote (by analog battery tester) was one of the problems, and new batteries made the difference (along with reseating the transceiver boards in both the remote and the TIU.) Also have not seen the "maint req" message after that.
What is the meaning of the "maintenance required" remote message? Just batteries, or not, or what possibilities?
Yeah the Maintenance thing pops up every now and then , If you go to the engine's" more "soft key you'll find it. There is a reset " RST" Press it and it won't bother you for a while. I suppose we're suppose to lube, clean, wipe down ,battery check etc.
It reminds you at 1000 scale miles. I would think a good lube job would be in order; it might be better to not ignore it.
Gentlemen,
GGG is absolutely correct about the P3 read out and the BCR in a P2 will give you a maintenance required read out on your Hand held, for a couple of sec's, till the BCR in a P2 engine is fully up to charge. Both these 2 read outs are nothing to worry about, there is nothing wrong, in either case.
