I seem to remember that open frame motors might have a problem with Pulse Width Modulated power supplies. I was wondering if any one has any experience with this.
Open frame motors run smoother at low speed with PWM (or chopped sine wave) but they will run hotter. From my experience Marx motors run much hotter than others. Motors on Thomas Industries run so hot I can only run them on a sine wave power source. When running for long periods it is a good idea occasionally check for overheating.
Thanks David I thought this may be the case. The question is why do they run hotter than can motors?, is it possible the quality of the magnets and spring tension on the brushes is the cause.
