30-1158-1Was QSI used on trains without sound and smoke and if what did it control?

back story:
I looked at a MTH train at (30-1158-0) at the Greenberg train show in Dulles Expo center and the gentleman at the show told me it had sound, smoke and QSI controls that he stated was the first version prior to Pro sound 2. When I looked at the MTH website it listed the train as traditional w/ whistle. No mention of sound, smoke or QSI control. I did some internet searching and all I could find was some adds on the train offered as a traditional with only whistle. When I mentioned this the gentleman at the show he stated QSI is a standard control system that could be upgraded to proto sound 3.

any help on this would be greatly appreciated for future reference

The DCRU is a basic DC motor reverse unit. It may have some add on items for directional light and markers.  The Whistle board could plug right into the top and work.  Or horn for diesel.

QSI set up did use that DCRU along with a center power supply board and a top board for more full sounds and conventional control.

MTH went with a two board stack and the bottom board on an MTH PS-1 has all the power supply items of the middle board QSI used.

Do a search and you can find more info.  G

Thanks for all the great info I’m still a babe in the woods. I was never a real train guy just a once a year Christmas layout wantabe. Now I’m planning my Christmas layout starting in July. Lol, however I’m trying to get everyone in the family into trains. It just such a broad field and you diffidently need to do your home work prior to buying. So thanks for explaining.
