Mark, better make sure it doesn't have the dreaded white MTH battery before you start it again!
Lots of threads about those old white batteries frying boards. You're supposed to replace them with BCR's.
Mark, here is one of those threads concerning batteries in PS1 and PS2 locos:
Mark, any chance you're in STL? I have a BCR I bought a few months ago and it turns out I don't need it. You can have it.
Yeah, email me.
You guys lost a lot of train stores... Roscoe still up off the I 70. He moved from maplewood..

Yeah. Unfortunately, I live a lot closer to Maplewood.
There's a ton of Batteries in the 5 dollar range that will work just fine to replace the old white ones, BCR's are good, just rather expensive! Some say that the BCR is not the way to go as it's possible that the charging circuit can be compromised. (I don't know) But hey, free is free! Or, one can make their own BCR's for cheap.
Remember the old MTH batteries were NICAD, the ones I use, and the new MTH are NiMH. So the old batteries may seem ok, but it's best to change them out as they don't charge well with age or short charges.
Yes, our area has lost many decent train shops, I miss The two shops in Kirkwood and the one in St Louis on Delmar That Steve (the pilot) ran.
Maybe I'll run into you gents at the show.
Marty.
Was that the train store by the train station?
And I think another was on the main Street up from the station. On think on a corner.
Now there is another near rock Hill . on Manchester.
If I get back have to see it.
The only Store I can think of that was near there, and on Manchester, was the Switchstand, which is now on Olive in the I-170 area (never been there since the move from Maplewood). The stores you mention in Kirkwood, one was on Jefferson about two blocks from the Train station, the other was right on the corner of Jefferson and Kirkwood. (Lindburgh) I don't remember a Train shop in Rock Hill, but I remember a Double cheeseburger and root beer from Carl's in Rock Hill!
Then there's always the Electric Train outlet on Page with the MTH hater that works there. And another somewhat Train shop would be Schaffer's hobby on Gravois. And I almost forgot a small shop also on Gravois just east of the RR bridge. I think it's Marty's. Lots of pre war there.
Kirkwood Hobby Station was at 301 S. Kirkwood Rd. (cross street Monroe Ave.), two blocks south of the Amtrak Station. It has been gone for several years. I don't remember any other store on Kirkwood Rd. or Lindbergh Blvd. Yes, the Switch Stand moved from Manchester Rd. in Maplewood up to Lackland Rd. in Overland (across from city hall). He probably moved because the rent is cheap but it was a mistake because Overland is a dump. The store that Riki is referring to on Manchester in Rock Hill is called Train Town. In my opinion, that's the best store in St. Louis. They deal in exclusively used stuff: prewar, postwar, and modern. Great store.
Kirkwood Hobby was there as the one you mention, but not on the same street. The owner's last name was Kirkwood and was in Kirkwood. He's been gone much longer than Hobby station. The Switchstand is now on Lackland? I thought Olive. As I said, I've not been there since they moved from Maplewood.
So Train Town is still operating? I've never seen it so another trip to the Lou is in order. And, of course a double cheese and rootbeer.
So Banjo, If on the way there I encounter a fork in the road, I should take it? Correct? Just saw their website and need to visit asap!
Funny story, Joe Garagiola is probably the only catcher in MLB that can claim he wasn't even the best catcher on his block as he came from the same neighborhood as Yogi.
Do you know if they repair post war?
There’s also Electric Train Outlet on Page near I-170. I agree, though, that Bob at Train Town has a great selection regardless of the era/brand you collect.
