Greetings. I setup a pair of old 1121 remote switches that seem to work but not completely. They switch once but don't switch back but will if i swap the outer wires on the outer posts. I am using newer single switch controllers for each switch and direct track power from an lw using tha a post to outside rail and u post to center rail.

Faulty controller or connection.  What color is it, and how many bulbs are it it?

Take the controller out of the equation... disconnect it and jump the center post to each side post alternately with a piece of wire or paper clip.  This will confirm proper operation of the switch.

The controller wiring scheme changed just slightly in 1952 with the introduction of the 1122.  To use newer controllers with the 1121, one of the "side" conductors of the three(which originally came with a spade connector) should go to the center post of the 1121, then connect the other two(switch them if the switch throws the wrong way for your setup) to the outside posts respectively.

Obviously, if that "side" wire doesn't work, try the other one.

You the man Rob! If you go to york, let me know Id like to meet you.  The paper clip test worked the switches and then configured the controller as you decribed and it worked. The controllers are modern era lionels. I might have the proper controller for this pair of switches but havent dug it up. I have a ton of them that need rewiring.  I have a ton of all kinds of postwar switches and thought it would be fun to learn they work. I have original and greenberg guides of instructions but I was able to understand how,why they would work interchanging the controllers. Thank you ver much. I will probably have more questions. If anyone needs any of these type of switches or enjoys rewiring controllers let me know. Haha. Yippee, time to test more of these out.
