Question on Kadee 800 series couplers

As far as I know all 800 series couplers were/are center shaft, only the new 700 series have under and over center couplers.

The short shank couplers are 806 and 743 (both center shaft).

I didn't see anything about the 800 series being phased out, does it say somewhere on their site?

Bob, I assumed some were being phased out because of the blank boxes in their spreadsheet. I've not shopped for O scale couplers before, only paid attention to their HO line.

The kadee 805 couplers work on everything,,a good all around choice,,,also available is a plastic or some such material 804 very durable ive had no problems what soever with either one,,jp

I always took assumed () that as meaning they have never been made.  There's blanks in some boxes for the 700 series as well.

If you haven't already, look into the possibility the 742 will fit for your application by trimming the back off the standard draft gear box. There's more material to the box than actually is needed. It won't be quite the same fit as the 806 box, but you can get pretty close. Many of us do it all the time for locomotive installations.

If you are going to be doing a fair number of Kadee installations, I recommend having one set of each of their coupler types in your inventory.  That way you can judge for yourself which works best for any given installation.  Just remember to restock as you use them.
