I have figured out by reading that it is possible to use the old remote with a new legacy 990 base. In the instructions it says that the old remote will only operate trains numbered one through nine. Does that mean I would have to re-address all the engines since they are set up with 2 digit numbers for legacy. Is using an old Cab1 and base with Legacy still pretty user friendly?

To use a Cab1 you still need the TMCC Command base with a serial cable connected to the Legacy Base. Your 990 should have the cable required to do this. A Cab1 will program 99 engines. Its only when you create Trains that you are limited to ten trains, not ten engines.

Absolutely! My waybill-driven operating group uses many Cab1s, on locos numbered 1-97 with no issues. We also use two Legacy controllers well. So long as the bases are cabled, you win.
