I have two #35 and one #36 Lionel's passenger cars and looking do a repaint.
My question is on the steps of both cars and the grill work on the observation cars are steel and soldered in place.
So my question is, did Lionel paint these gold or silver after the car was painted?
Picture are the cars as I received them from eBay (great deal, about $36.00 including shipping), they have been repainted, but are complete.
Planning to strip them, then to paint the cars to a custom painted Lionel #8 engine that I purchase on this forum .
Should be a fun project.

Thanks Prewar Pappy, I believe these are the later version with no ribs on the body.
Once the cars is painted and dried I will paint the steps Railing gold and redo the lettering with rubber stamps.
Another question: would you know who has the best prices for wheels and axles?
I was able to clean the axle and wheels with a brass wire brush wheel on my drill press but the wheels are pitted and axle should be replaced for best results.

The part numbers listed are 9T-17 wheels, and 9T-20 axles.  The only dealer that has both parts for sure is Olsen Toy Train Parts.  Jeff Kane shows the axles as a definite, but doesn't list the wheels, as I just checked his site.  Brasseurs lists the wheels as 9T-17A, and doesn't have the axles.  So the decision is yours, of one supplier, or multiple suppliers.
