I am looking for quillable whistle sound files for an MTH PRR M1 Mountain locomotive and an MTH Nickel Plate Road locomotive.  I have looked using the sound file search on the MTH website, but they don't seem to have any.  Just in case I am missing them, does MTH have sound files for these locomotives with quillable whistles?

Thanks

So can I and routinely do

For PS-2 the answer is no.

PS-3 Premier will have that feature but that won't work with PS-2 boards.

Additionally, the quillable whistle only works on PS-2 3V boards that are flashed to support that.  So you need an original Flash board.  Standard upgrade boards won't support QW even if you load a sound file that supports it.  G

Both locos are Imperials with PS3.  I have found a corresponding Premier sound file for the Nickel Plate 30-1629-1.  I believe the Premier version is number 20-3568-1.

I have not found a Premier version of the M1 in PS3 model number 30-1580-1

From the online description of the latest DCS upgrade prior to version 5.0 (I think it was 4.4), it made it sound like the DCS upgrade would allow any PS3 loco to have a quillable whistle.  They have since changed to version 5.0, so I upgraded to that.  Upon reading the description of version 5.0, and doing more research, it seems not all PS3 locos have quillable whistles.  So, without quillable whistle sound files, I guess I did the DCS upgrades for nothing, unless we end up with the wi-fi module.

Will Premier sound files work in an Imperial loco as long as both the loco and the sound file are PS3?

Thanks again

PS-32 Steam kits do support QW since they embedded that flash code in the PS-32 Steam code.  Than you need to find the PS-2 sound file that has quillable whistle.  There really are only a few that do have it.  This period when QW was added is also the time they transistioned from PS-2 to PS-3.

PS-2 engines with QW include a Bboy, Triplex, Mikado, Camel Back, N&W J.  Maybe a few more.

There was a DCS change needed to support quillable whistle too, I think it was 4.20 though maybe something earlier.

The only problem with using a PR in RK is the speed maybe off especially if there is a gear ratio and driver difference between engine.

I think you need to see if you can just load SF and if the QW works with your original Flash file.  If so all may be fine.  IF it doesn't and you need to load the PR flash code too, then speed and lights may be off since your using a different hardware table.   G
