I have a r2lc that starts up and it sounds like the engine is running full speed as soon as i power it up and it doesnt respond to either conventional or tmcc...i tried reset and still nothing...

Tried it in 2 different engines...and same results...

Anyone have any ideas i can look at to see if it's me or if i can fix the board somehow?

thanks

Is this a locomotive you have owned and used before, or something that you recently picked up. The reason I ask is because my son and I had this trouble a couple different times. We would put a set on the track in program mode, turn the command base on first and then the power.  The tender would start up immediately.  We could not get the locomotive to program and respond to the TMCC cab 1 set.  I had to first program the locomotive with my 990 Legacy cab 2 controller, then do a factory reset.  After the locomotive was programmed, and factory reset using the Legacy controller. Then we could program it to the TMCC cab 1 controller.  It seems that sometimes some locomotive's that were originally programmed with a 990 Legacy set, do not want to respond to the TMCC cab 1.  Unless the locomotive was first factory reset using the 990 first.

This happened most recently to my sons brand new Vision Line Big Boy. He was using it with his TMCC cab 1 set just fine.  We programmed it with a 990 Legacy set that I picked up for him, which we ended up having to return because it only had a range of about 5 feet.  So when we tried to program it back to his TMCC cab 1 that he had been using all along, and it would not program. We took the locomotive and put it on my layout with the 990 Legacy set. Programmed it to engine 1, did a factory reset. Brought it back to his layout, and programmed it back to his TMCC cab 1 with no problem at all.
