I picked up an older Rail King Challenger (RK 1108). It runs well but I would like to upgrade to PS 3. I know I can get the upgrade kit from MTH but my question is on the smoke unit. What I understand is that the existing smoke unit won’t work with PS 3 and I will need at least a ps 2 or 3 smoke unit. Does anyone know what newer MTH smoke unit would fit this engine and will work with the upgrade?

You can modify the PS/1 smoke unit to operate with PS/3, the instructions are in the kit. Basically, you just cut off the active part of the PCB and wire the two smoke resistors in parallel. Many times the PS/1 smoke unit has a unique funnel that is pressed into the PCB, so it's best usually to just modify the smoke unit for the task.
