I have a K-Line PRR Interurban pair that I'd like to add command & sound to. I'm considering buying an appropriate sound module from Lionel from the several hundred available RailSounds 4 modules. Does anyone know of a sound module that would suit such a set? I'd love to have some station announcements, but I'm afraid that's not going to happen. I'd use the PS2 upgrade if this set had flywheel motors. Since it doesn't, it'll have to be TMCC.

Have you thought about the Station announcement's module
from Z stuff ? Works very well, Even has start/stop contact on it.
The speaker can me mounted remotely.
It might be something to consider..
Bruce.
There's this little matter of linking it to the TMCC command outputs from the engine. I'd like to have command control of it.
Mounting a remote speaker isn't an option for something that runs on our modular layout as well as several different locations. This needs to be self-contained and command controlled.
Lionel made a TMCC interuban for JCPenny some time ago. I am not sure if it is 2.5 or 4. This may help.
That would help, I wonder if anyone has an item number that I could look up?
I found it, but the RS board is one that apparently they want a trade-in for you to buy.
John,
I think this is as close you are going to get. 691PCB114C

John,
The Penney's Southern Pacific Interurban is 6-18352. It was a single unit from 2001. Has a great Interurban sound set.
There's also the New Haven, Reading, Illinois Central and Long Island MU 2-packs from 2000-2001. These are also RailSounds 4 but I wasn't involved with the development on these, so I'm uncertain as to how good or accurate the sound systems are.
Hope this helps-

That's just the generic GG-1 electric, I was hoping for something a bit less "generic".

The 6-18352 is one I found looking through the RailSounds boards, but apparently it's one I have to have a trade-in to obtain.
John,
If it was me, I would use a sound card from one of the NYC S-1 and S-2 electrics. It was a nice hollow whistle instead of a horn. The station sounds would be for a NYC train instead of PRR. Depends on what sounds are important to you.
John,
Try these:
6-18328 Reading (6-18329 powered unit)
6-18331 New Haven (6-18332 powered unit)
6-18344 Long Island (6-18345 powered unit)
6-18347 Illinois Central (6-18348 powered unit)
That's the entire universe of Lionel MU cars with TMCC.

Also a good suggestion if you strike out with the MU cars.

Looks like I could get the Reading one, I think I'll give that a try. The others are not available.
Chuck, the S-1 and S-2 electrics were RS5, and Lionel isn't selling those without a trade-in yet.
John,
The S-1 is RS4 691-RS40-01F
Bill
I looked up the S-1, the description reads.
RailSounds 5.0 sound system with new intelligible CrewTalk dialog and more TowerCom announcements
I looked up the 6-18351 parts and it does indeed say.
691RS4001F RAILSOUNDS 4E / NYC S-1 ELECTRIC #100 34 $45.00
So, I wonder which it is?
I was also looking at this one.
691PCB1108 RAILSOUNDS 4.0 / READING MU #9109 $45.00
The real problem here is, I don't actually know what anyone of these really sound like...
The S-2 is 5.0
I had an S-2, so I know it has RS5. I was just going by the description on the Lionel site for the S-1.
I'm leaning to the Reading MU unit, but I'd like to know what sounds it has.
Years back, I converted a Williams passenger kit to a interurban. When I belonged to the VTC back in the 80's, the news letter had a article reprinted from the late 40's or early 50's Model RR magazine on how to using Lionels madison cars..
Bill
Well, I have the interurban cars already, just need sound for them.
