Doing an upgrade on a RK Proto 1 UP FEF; plan to use a RS 5.5 sound board from Lionel 11116; using an ERR Cruise Lite with a R4LC S03 (works fine). My question: should I use a RS5 railsounds motherboard for the sound and power boards? I ask this as I tested a RS 4 motherboard and does not work pure; asking to confirm what I suspect; also the difference between and S02 and S03 board. Thanks much for any help. Mr Rudy, can use your input; thank you; Falcon70

Need to be careful what your talking about. R2LC C xx are TMCC. R4LC S XX are Legacy. Yes ERR uses the R4LC hardware, but it software for TMCC and a C08 code.
Typically S02 and 3 are Legacy R4LC boards and would not work with TMCC motor drivers like ERR Cruise CDR. G
Thank you for the info. The R4S3 "works" in the Cruise Lite but not purely; I get random results so I suspect the Cruise Lite will not "play" well with the R4S3 or S2. Bottom line just be happy with RS5 or RS4 and a TMCC R4 or R2. Was trying to get Leg sounds into this upgrade; appears I have to use a Leg DCDS + R4S3 + RS5.5 for all to play well. Thanks so much; Falcon70
Picture of the board to see the label would help, but I have not been able to get TMCC cruise motor drives to work with a Legacy R4LC. Can't say I ever tried it with an ERR CC. But Legacy code is transmitted in a different format and it is not suppose to work. 8 bit versus 9 bit I believe. G
George, will take some pics of what I am using and what I may have to do for full Leg sounds; thanks much; Falcon
