I'm currently making my own custom Raritan River NYC style caboose. Unfortunately it seems I got my years wrong and I have to find or make one of the Raritan River's Lackawanna wood sided cabooses. A caboose close in size and detail to this caboose would be alright with me. If I could find someone who could make a custom caboose like this then let me know. Thanks.

Have Malcolm, i.e. "Brother Love" make you the exact DL&W/Raritan River caboose you want. Visit the 2-Rail SCALE Forum to see Malcolm's spectacular work.

That is one option.
I think that a wood kit for this caboose was actually produced by Ambroid or Gloor Craft (or someone....) and that they are about; I may even have one somewhere in the mountainous project queue. Those specific trucks might be a challenge - the old Walther Sierra car trucks might pass cursory inspection. That paint scheme is a more straightforward,
I agree with Hot Water, Brother Love is the way to go if your looking for a high quality custom model caboose.
How do I talk to this "Brother Love"? Price isn't quite a concern of mine. As long I think it's fair.

Try the search function, and/or look for him on the 2-Rail SCALE Forum. I can't remember if he has his contact information in his "Forum Profile". You may have to post this caboose subject over on the 2-Rail SCALE Forum, and wait for him to contact you. Malcolm pretty much hangs out on the 2-Rail SCALE Forum.
Edit: I just checked his "Forum Profile" and his eMail/contact information is posted there.
Thanks. What is his usual price if you could give a rough estimate?

I would prefer to leave that up to Malcolm. Just remember that you get what you pay for, and his workmanship is truly unbelievable.
What I meant to say was what price should I be prepared to pay? I don't want to get into something and then not be prepared for the end result. At least the high 100's right? The highest I'd go is like 200. By that point I might as well go for a MTH caboose..

Just my opinion but, you should set your budget higher for a TOTALLY ACCURATE DL&W wood caboose.

Again, just my opinion but, you will NOT find any MTH caboose models that CORRECTLY represent ANY DL&W cabooses, especially that wood version.
That's just the point. I'm not even in college yet and I don't have that kind of cash.
I didn't say I'd make my own caboose out of an MTH. I meant the RRRR borrowed PRR cabooses from time to time. In the future if I get the money I will consider the Malcolm path. But for now I ought to focus on either finding a caboose very close to the DL&W version or just getting the PRR caboose.

Malcolm's work is not stuff that you can get on a budget or while you have to save for tuition payments.
I have to go look into my mountain of project boxes and see what's really in there; I know I picked up 3-4 wood caboose projects to do at the Indy show......another side door drover caboose to rebuild is on top of the pile and I found yet another one of those rough and unstarted in a box on Sun.
Yeah, ok thanks. For now I can't afford to get a realistic caboose but at the same time I'd rather spend the money for a custom steam locomotive. Could someone at least help me find a caboose that is close to the DL&W?
Hello, I'm new here.
So, I'd suggest just buying a K-line caboose similar to the first photo shown and kitbashing it to look smiliar to one of these yellow Ex DL&W cabooses.
or, you could buy the 1989 Lionel RDG Caboose and decaying it to look similar to the RRRR 7. I would suggest buying the 1989 reading cabbies because it had the same red color and is lighted.
