York! For me its not the trains so much anymore, but renewing the friendships forged in the Halls from a great common interest.
With that, why does every discussion about the TCA and York turn into a scrapple discussion? Next hijack topic in this thread: crop dusting.... You guys really need to get out of the basements more often...lol
Barring very few exceptions, it's safe to say it's pretty unanimous here...
Reason to join TCA = YORK.

P.S. Which means whatever the TCA annual membership fee happens to be in a given year, you just divide it by 2 and call it part of the York admission fee twice a year -- assuming you attend York in April and October. If you attend York only once a year, then your one visit to York just got a bit more expensive. And if you don't attend York at all, then you just donated some $$$ to the TCA.
I believe our hobby wouldn't be as popular as it is were it not for the TCA. I joined in 1990 and prior to that I was a family member under my Dad, who joined in 1966. So, there is a fairly long family history; TCA membership was very important to my Dad, and it is to me, and always will be. One visit to the Toy Train Museum and Library should tell anyone how much this organization has done / continues to do to promote the hobby, and equally important, to preserve the history of toy trains. Even with the increase to $50.00, for me it's worth every penny to support this group that has done so much.
Last year I joined a local train club, and at my first meeting I heard more negative things said about TCA and York than I had ever heard before; I tried a few more meetings and not much changed, so when my membership in that club was up for renewal, I chose not to renew. I will say no more about that experience as that would be just as bad as the negative comments about the TCA.
Bottom line, if a club has value for you, stay with it. If not, leave and respectfully keep the negative thoughts to yourself.
