Red Caboose and Atlas DT&I Projects

Lookin' good Lucas.

Some progress on the GP9 shell. I realized I put the footboards on backwards, so I fixed those. The handrails are only temporarily mounted, I will cement them on after I paint the shell. I may also replace them with brass versions.

I would have loved to have gone to the train show.

To paint now you would need a painting booth with fans for warm air in and to move the paint fumes outside.

DT&I motive power in different stages of progress. 2 Red Caboose GP9s; 1 needs to have the dynamic brakes removes and both need paint. The K-Line GP38 has a preliminary coat of paint.


This 3-railed Atlas F unit will be cannibalized for the drive for the RC GP9.


The other DT&I caboose is finished, minus the decals.

Wow. that was harder the I thought, but I've got it here. DId you send me your address? Probably. But I'm thinking you'd better send it again so i can get this out to you ASAP.

I saw a 2-Rail Old Atlas F-7 in BN colors and I wondered how could anybody 3-Rail a unit that runs off an HO Scale DC transformer.

I bought both drives for my Atlas units from forum member Mike Ciarimboli already 3-railed. He used a rectifier and cut holes in the bottom of the truck blocks for rollers

What would have to be determined are the right spots to add new pick-up rollers to the old Atlas F-3/7 so they could operate on the current type of Atlas O switches without losing power.'

 

 

Got around to painting the Red Caboose GP9s. The black for the frames will be brushed on.

 

The first RC GP9 is on the rails.

I also unweathered my Lionel DT&I GP9 (numbered as a GP7) to fit in with my other units

1 down, 2 to go!

That is impressive.

 

When they are all finished, you will have to run them on the modular layout together for a new YouTube video.
