Received my repainted Lionel PW F3 shells from Len Carparelli today.  They are so beautiful, very excellent work!  My wife also commented how beautiful they are and how she likes them.  I have been needing some Burlington Route motive power, send in some old, messed up St Fe 2343 shells, got back some real beauties, couldn't be more pleased.  Thanks to Len and his great work............

I have many repaints, steam and diesel; too many to post. Here are 2 off-the-wall examples.

Two Lionel cheapies, but I like them; the GM&O was done ages ago, even before Lionel offered the "JC Penney" (I think) GM&O RS-3.

My early weathering job on the GM&O unit was, ah, intense, shall we say. I still like it, though, if only for nostalgia reasons. The L&N was done only about 5 years ago. Both are accurate paint schemes.

These Lionel RS-3's are really good enough to add proper fuel tanks and close up/frame-mount the pilots. I can live with the handrails - not too thick on these. Add an ERR Commander (cruise commander, maybe?) after the above tank/pilot "improvements" and off you go. The coupler mounts are "non-standard", so adding remote couplers would not be a drop-in situation, but not tragically difficult.

Other Lionel PW F3s repainted, formerly 2333 NYC with the paint peeling off glossy black primer, a common problem with these 2333 engines.  Had them repainted years ago into M.P. freight engines by friend Bob in Illinois, Chicago area.  Do not consider having Lionel PW I have repainted, too much, condition and grade of collection best kept as is.  Need to begin seeking old, abused shells for repaint and new road names, I reckon.............

Here are a few I've done.

The  Lionel traditional size SD9 was originally a Chessie. I stripped and repainted the blue chassis (an awful job, Lionel makes that paint not to come off!), then swapped a Lionel GP9 body onto it. Finally I renumbered the body to a correct SD9 road number. The unit has TMCC; I did it about ten years ago. This was before MTH came out with their Rail King Scale SD9 in Milwaukee Road. The transfer caboose is a Lionel that I repainted. The Milwaukee had similar cabooses, but they were steel, not wood.

K-Line Shay, redecorated to Chicago, Milwaukee, & St. Paul. It's not well known, but the Milwaukee Road owned a few Shays in the early part of the 20th century. The log car is a LOTS special run; I have enough of them to make a nice train. Caboose is an MTH bobber.

This is a Williams SD45 that I did for the Gadsden Pacific Toy Train Museum. I designed the paint scheme to evoke the Sonoran Desert, with the desert tan and red rock colors. I still need to print some decals and clear-coat it, then I'll donate it.

My attempt at the A&WP 290 - I bought this K-line Pacific already weathered - but was able to match the weathering from where I stripped it to the metal to re-letter it.  Pretty pleased.  I know it ain't dead on, but it is close.  Especially for the first try.  It is my favorite locomotive and I wish K-line was still in business.  I just bought an MTH Mikado that I plan to changing over to Frisco #4018.  They look pretty close too.  I wouldn't mind getting one of those Weaver 2-8-0's an re-lettering it as the Southern #630 and moving the belt to the front of the boiler - that would be closer than what Lionel just put out!

Here's my latest, converted a Lionel Southern 4-8-2 Mountain to a Seaboard Air Line Class M2 Mountain.

In addition to building a new brass Vanderbilt tender (using 2" diameter brass bar rail tubing), I also moved the bell, domes, and made new running boards for the boiler.  Repainted using some automotive spray paint I got at Pep Boys and Champ decals.

The rest of my steamers are BPRC, so this one got the same treatment:

That's the on/off switch and charging jack, the receiver is inside the piece of yellow (heat shrink) you see tucked behind the board.  The 9.6v 2000Mah NiMh battery is inside the tenders water tank, accessed by popping off the rear of the tank if need be.  The coal load is a piece of foam rubber:

This is my only Lionel steam engine (I had an old Scout I gave to my grandson) and is quickly becoming my favorite.  Best slow speed steamer I have, even beating out my Williams brass 4-8-4 N&W 611.

I need to add sand dome piping and 2 tool boxes to the tender.  I was surprised the brass tender is lighter than the heavy diecast original Lionel tender.
