everybody here was very helpful to me when two years ago I was buying my son's first train set, Lionel's Polar Express https://ogrforum.com/t...train-for-5-year-old. It was a great toy for him and he played a lot with it. We sometimes had to put it away depending on what friends were coming to play, but it was definitely appropriate for him.

We now need to fix it, and I am wondering if I can get some ideas about what might be wrong with it.

The locomotive sometimes does not want to move, and it sometimes starts very slowly to then stop again or it moves fine for a while, and sometimes there is no problem at all. When this happens, you can definitely hear the noise that it is receiving power and it is trying to move. We check all the wiring as far as we can, and everything looks fine. We haven't gone as far as unscrewing anything, as we have no idea where to start.

i would appreciate if you can advise where or what we should look at.

thank you

Thank you for your reply. I think you are right because there is a screw missing in the eccentric crank. I will need to order it from Lionel.

Can I ask you more questions?

The coupler assembly of one of the coaches is broken, and I have the replacement part. But I can't see how I would change it, where/what do I unscrew.

As my name says, I have no idea (and no train tools at this point) ...

and not much time to just sit and research this totally unknown world.

Thank you
