My question is what voltage will they take & how can they be wired & do away withe the batteries. I just checked my batteries one of them is dead, one is 4.5 & the other 1.3v. I have never even turned them on.

Ken M says he has never turned his on, I had mine on once only to see how it looked. Hate to buy new batteries & have the same thing happen. Could they have been shipped with old batteries ?.

The 3 batteries I have are LR1130, no v on them, Ken M says his are 2 different v.
Try "AG10" which is an equivalent part number for the LR1130...and is the number specified for the car. It's 1.5V. So 3 of them make for 4.5V.

You can get a blister card of 10 for less than $1 (free shipping) on eBay from Asia, or about $2 (free shipping) on eBay from within the US. I've seen cards of them at Dollar Tree. Or pay a little more at virtually any retail store (Walmart, etc.).
FWIW and a FYI, these are the same batteries (and same quantity) used in the Menard's army tank that came on their flat car offered a year or so ago. My grandson informed me on Sunday that the tank had stopped making noise and needed batteries. I also have the ambulance so if you happen to have more Menard's battery powered items, I suspect they may use the same batteries more of their battery powered items?
I followed Stan's advice above (a little early) and ordered some from ebay on Sunday evening.
I solved my problem by powering them off my 5VDC power supply so now when I turn my layout on the lights on the ambulance do there thing. No more batteries.

Does the ambulance use LED or just regular bulbs ? thanks
I didn't know it lights up. I was just looking at one at Menards yesterday.
I did radio shack, but Amazon has a much better price
