Hi everyone . Recently I had the misfortune of having the power supply  for my lionel cab1-l burn out. It made for disastrous results to my tmcc  nw2. It seems that the actual transformer inside the wall wart burned out.  It is  an ac to ac 9v transformer.  There are several similar transformers available on the internet by jameco ranging from 500 mA to 1500 mA.  The only difference is that they do not have a 3 prong plug, meaning they are not grounded.  I am wondering if these are suitable to use and I might have to run a separate ground wire from the common on my layout to the house electrical ground. Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

So last night I tore apart the power supply.  Inside there is a fuse soldered onto the hot wire coming from the transformer. It's hidden under the insulation. And of course the fuse had blown. After connecting the hot wire back together, I  had power.  I  removed the fuse and had to resolder all the  connections because they are quite flimsy.  That included ALL the wires. My intention is to get an in line fuse holder and splice it into the hot wire outside of the casing and put an 500mA fuse there. That way if the fuse blows again, I  have easy access to it.

It's no longer available through lionel. Just checked the website parts listings.

I would talk to Deane (Lionel Service Mgr) to find out what is going on there!! They still sell the Legacy 1L Equip. That equipment is not that old!  Call LIONEL !!

The Legacy BASE1L/CAB1L is the replacement for the old TMCC base and CAB1, so it makes sense that parts for that one are still available.  The BASE1L brick is 9VAC vs 12VAC for the old TMCC base brick.

It’s not a better ground you want, it’s that you want a good connection to the house ground wire which you are using for an antenna. The wall wart does that. But an additional wire connected to pin #5 of the base DB9 connector may help as additional antenna wire if needed.
