I have an A B A set of F3 diesels from Atlas's first run of F3's. Several years all the non operating couplers between the A units and the B unit broke. I contacted Atlas but no replacements were available so I waited almost a year for the the second run of F3's so they would have replacement couplers. After issues with screw size for attaching the replacements, I was able to again enjoy my Southern F3's. Well, last month, two more bro and there are no replacement available.
Recognizing that this is going to be an ongoing issue, I have decided to replace the four atlas non operating couplers with Kadee couplers. A friend gave me two sets of # 805 couplers and I figured I could just attach them to the bottom of the Frames. Upon further inspection, I realized I will need to use a spacer to get the coupler below the door. I have never installed a Kadee on O trains before and would prefer to not reinvent the wheel.
If there is anyone who has replaced the couplers with Kadees and could offer suggestions on the installation, I would appreciate the help /advice.
