Got that message on the remote following a derailment on my TT. If that issue is covered in Barry's book, then no need to explain it here. My DCS PS2 equipment dates back nearly ten years and has worked flawlessly until now. Whatever needs to be done is critical as nothing works. Engines programmed into the remote are no longer listed.

I've never seen that message. Whatever happened to the TIU would not have erased the engines stored in the remote. If all of the engines are gone, something else has transpired.
To check if the TIU is connected, do this.
- MENU
- SYSTEM
- TIU SETUP
- TIU Version
If it finds the TIU, the version will be listed. At that point, I'd probably try resetting the TIU.
If that fails, since all the engines are missing, did you try resetting the remote and then see if you can see the TIU?

John,
I managed to follow you instructions and in the process erased my 17 Ross Switches attached to two Aux boxes. Will take me a lot more than a few minutes to reprogram them. About the same time I was having problems with command control a short arose on an insulated block on my outer loop. With the block turned off, no short indicated on my Z-4000. Will take me a while to track down the cause. I finished wiring my 3 loop layout more than 10 years ago. All track power wiring was soldered. Each loop has 3 insulated blocks. At that time I was expecting to run in conventional mode having no knowledge of command control. Thus for more than than ten years track power has worked flawlessly.
An eBay seller has a slightly used (20 minutes) Legacy set, #990. Starting bid was $240. There is one bidder as of this writing. Am following but not ready to fall on my sword to get it. With new units selling in the upper $300, it might pass the $300 mark. More than I want to pay for a 3rd set.
Thanks for your help. It appears my Legacy and DCS systems are operable. I am going to take a break from the hobby for a while and then try to return with renewed enthusiasm.
Regards
Bill
