Cramped layouts need reverse loops, too.  The new O-31 FasTrack (6-37103) can help.

We only have the O-31 Full curve (45deg) to work with.  There is no FT O31 turnouts, or partial curves, so this loop is mixed curves (O36 & O31)

It avoids a direct S-curve with 9 inches of straight -- which ought to be enough if you're able to get around the O-31 anyway.

Unlabeled tracks are 2* 10" straights, and 5* O31 curves.

[This is based on the RR-Track software dimensions, for which we have some evidence are a bit off]

Looks like a good plan.

I've had good luck with reverse loops using Fastrack switches (including O-36).  I estimated that my layout, when all Fastrack, had them operate automatically in anti-derailing mode bout 80,000 times with no failures.  So, when I went to all Atlas track recently, I still used Fastrack switches for my reversing loop Ys, making and fitting transitions.

Space permitting, you can stretch the size of the loop by adding pairs of straights.  I did this on my layout and can now run longer trains.  Before, my train length was constrained by the size of my turnback loops.

Gentlemen,

I have used the reverse loops on our layouts for many years, depending on which part of the layout and the space alloted the track size aways differs.  I do not use the FasTrack switches instead I use the old Lionel 022's.  Remember however if you engineer part of your layout, in this manner, it limits which engines and rolling stock you can run on that section of your layout.   Eventually with more space you will engineer reversed loops with the 711 or 072 type switches, to allow the

running of larger engines and rolling stock, without problems.  With little space you must engineer to match the space limitations.
