Having just watched the movie this past week, this reminded me of the Return of the Jedi speeder chase through the woods.  To each his own, I guess.  I wonder how the rider stays on the seat, since there were some rather sharp curves in the ride.  I sure hope that they wear a helmet.  Also, I couldn't read any of the yellow, triangular caution signs along the way - I wonder what they said, and what you could do actually about anything that came up if you had to.

Yeah, it is like the old alpine slide in the way it is set up, the only thing about this is the car can't leave the track, with the way the monorail is designed (unless, of course, the thing was engineered to a standard less than someone too big for it, and the metal sheers).......

They had an alpine slide at Action Park, at what is now the Mountain Creek ski area (we used to call the place traction park). Those sleds had brakes on them, but you went down this fiberglass track which was basically a mini half pipe, and you could go flying off the track on a curve if you went too fast, a couple of people were killed on it (as far as I know, the waterpark that is still there dismantled the alpine slide). I wonder how it stops you at the end, hopefully it isn't jump off or die

I thought exact thing about Return of the Jedi.

They had one with track like that in Brenton Woods NH when I was dating my wife 35 years ago. Unlike an alpine slide which if you go too fast you go off the  track. ( Not a fun thing to do as you get some bad skin burns as I found out.) You could go as fast as you wanted but it did have brakes. No where as long as the one in Dons post. They also had one at Mt Whittier which was basically a giant pipe that the car sat on top of. When you got to the top of the mountain there was a big straight section which you could gain a lot of speed. Also had brakes. When my youngest son was about 3 we were on the alpine slide at Attitash  and a fox jumped in front of the sled. Good thing you could slow down.  John

In the early 80's Cascade Mountain Ski Resort in Wisconsin had a similar ride. It was a one man cart captive on an ibeam. You wore a seat belt. My teenage sons could ride it down with no brakes but I always had brake at a couple of the curves. I took a Super 8 Movie riding the entire lenght. I don't have it  transfered to video. It was better than any roller coaster.

I looked at a couple other videos of this same run. The "cars" look to be fiberglass with a seat and a seatbelt. There is a brake handle that you can pull back on to stop it or slow down (no helmets either) even though the original filmer did not use it until the bottom. What struck me was that the following distance between individuals was quite close (one video showed one car ramming another even) at high speeds.

There are two mountain coasters and a alpine slide about 1 hour from my house.  Attitash Mt. in Bartlett, NH.  Has the Alpine Slide and a Mt. Coaster.   Their Mt. Coaster has auto brakes, so if someone in front of you is going slow.  You keep getting braked so you won't rear end them.  It happened to me.  I finnally stopped and let the person get way ahead.   But I still caught up with them.     The other Mt. Coaster is in North Conway, NH at Cranmore Mt.  I prefer this track, as they don't have the auto breaks.
