These are my thought on Walt's new PS1 boxcars:
I see in a picture one of the NEW ALL NEW TOOLING PS-1 boxcars from RMT! Let me tell you, Lionel won't sell any more PS-1 boxcars after you see the RMT!
I put them (the new RMT) next to a Lionel on the layout. I could not detect any size difference above the frame (or below). The brake has a few links of real chain, and a "perforated" deck for the brakeman to stand on. I MEAN no visible difference from a Lionel. ATLAS Premier has some difference in ladder construction below the frame, MTH identical to ATLAS. Lionel's and RMT are better. The lower rung on ATLAS Premier breaks of very easily.! The door has plastic wrapped around the whole car to protect it from shipping damage. The door is operable just like a Lionel. There is a load inside the box car, and a "wooden" plank floor. The underside has air lines, brake lines, and some thingamajigs on the underside. The painting was flawless! The roof walk is photo etched brass, just like Lionel's. The car is a rivet counters delight.
And all of this for only $35.00 or maybe less at a big dealer like RO or TrainWorld.
This car is simply a must buy! Walter was autographing cars with your name and his on the box at Hennings Trains. Hennings trains took quite a few of my dollars :-) The RMT train box may be the best on the market. It is light cardboard, like Lionel's engines are. All the other boxes on the market for rolling stock are pretty crappy and tear very easily.
I bought one of the Denver and Rio Grande Western engines from METCA. It has a superb paint job on the engine and really swell emblems/logos on the tender. My other buys were more RMT stuff, Hennings paint, and a fair number of Lionel rolling stock pieces. I'm still thinking of buying a Lionel Cab forward from Trainz.
