Apparently so.
Thanks for sharing. It is a fantastic looking layout. It is a great hobby. While Rod Stewart had a great career, I still really enjoy his early work with Jeff Beck on "Truth". Just shows this hobby can bring so many different people together, just like great music.
The linked article said that he spent "thousands" on it. More likely it was thousands of thousands. There was an extensive article in Model Railroader several years ago about his layout. It said that he took modeling supplies on the road and rented an additional hotel room so he could work on buildings between concerts. Disassembling and moving the layout from LA to England will be quite an undertaking.
In the English music world, former recording exec and promoter Pete Waterman has been creating huge modular O-scale layouts that are displayed in large venues (such as cathedrals) around the UK each summer. Also, singer Jools Holland (never heard of him, but apparently he's quite popular in the UK) is very active with model and heritage railways. There was even a British TV show where groups competed to build model railways. Lots of great exposure for the hobby on that side of the pond.
There is NOTHING wrong with being a bit kooky! It's a great hobby, as all reading this forum will likely agree, and Rod Stewart is/was a great participant.
Interesting! The pictures I've seen of Rod's layout are spectacular.
I've thoroughly enjoyed Rod's music over the decades. There are gems on YouTube from way back when Rod was singing with the Faces. Ronnie Wood, Rick Lane, Ian McLagen, and Kenny Jones, along with Rod's unique vocals, were truly an electrifying and energetic experience to see. The group's live performances were amazing. I'm very thankful that a bit of those years has survived via YouTube. SO much talent in all of them.
I trust Rod's retiring from touring?
Andre
Rod has just ended his 13 year performing residency in Las Vegas, so I'm guessing this is probably it. At 79 you can only stand in front of speakers for so long. I'm not quite there yet.
John
In another interview on CBS, Rod said he built the vast majority of the layout himself. It's definitely museum-quality.

Not to mention Phil Collins, famous lead of the band Genesis (and soloist), who is a huge model train fan, even having taken off from recording sessions from time to time to work on his train layout.

Nope. It was recently announced that Rod has extended his Vegas residency through 2025 (at least). He says he's having too much fun to end it!

Nope to that as well, happily. His tour schedule is currently going into 2025.
By the way, the article doesn't say he's getting rid of his layout. It's really only talking about what he'd like to do with it when he no longer has it. He mentions not having it in his will, so it sounds like he's just planning for the future.

I have a copy of the Model Railroader that outlines his layout. He is truly a gifted model railroader, and I connected with his building and painting structures to relax after a long day. From what I read, most of the modeling work on the layout was done by his talented hands.
