Thank You Bob, I wasn’t sure if my car was Williams or Weaver. Apparently it’s neither.

This car gave me an idea with the upcoming METCA TCA Convention in 2015. I was thinking about replacing the cities with train clubs that would be on the tours. I scanned it in and did a mark up on paper and then Stu did the markup on the car.

It was all for naught when the tour director canceled Riverhead; because it was too far in his mind. Stu went on to design a LV car for METCA that had a different map on each side.

I’m a fan of the MTH Map Cylindrical Hoppers…

And finally, two versions of the LIRR car - like the “Dashing Dan” version, but love the ‘64-‘65 World’s Fair version (I have some wonderful memories of visiting the Fair as a kid).

You could have a Williams car. I also have this one. I'll have to get to my train room to compare the two cars and see what the difference is in them.

Interesting, I don’t have a box.

Silly question, do real prototypes of these map cars exist?  I don't recall seeing one ever, however in Houston most of the trains whizzing by have mainly tank cars.

I had posted the pictures of the LV. I searched the internet and I found documentation that LV Boxcar 62634 had a system map painted on one side. There weren’t any accompanying pictures.

Finally got to my train room to check the cars. It's so far from my house; it must be at least 25 feet from the back door. I hate it when life gets in the way of what's really important.

I checked the FRH and Williams cars for differences. The FRH car is a reefer and has reporting marks 62587 on the end (the FRH cars could also have 97477 as reporting marks). The Williams car is a boxcar and has a reporting mark of 587477 on the end. The Williams car also has dimensional data on the door and an airtank and braces on the bottom of the frame. Here are the two cars together: the FRH car is on the left. The Williams car has glossy paint, but that could just be because it is MIB and the FRH car has been out on my layout.

Just to complicate things, I also have a KMT boxcar that is the same except the car is silver. No reporting marks or door dimensions on this boxcar. It's a little hard to tell from the photo but the car is definitely silver and the others are white. Other than the color, the KMT car is more like the FRH car. I should have taken a photo of all 3 cars together. Sorry.

Bob, thanks for the research and clarification. You made it easy to identify. As you can see in the pictures, I have a FRH car, 97477 with molded in reefer doors and roof hatches. BTW, I think that this is my only FRH car.

I’ve added a couple more MTH Map Cylindrical Hoppers to my roster. Unlike most of their map cars (which showed the railroad’s entire system), the first two show the routes of two famous trains…

First up, the route of Illinois Central’s City of New Orleans (admit it, you sang the name of the train!!!) from Chicago to The Big Easy:

And then, we have the New York Central’s Empire State Express from New York City to Buffalo…

And finally, back to a standard map of the Bangor & Aroostook:

Was just clearing some stuff off the layout in preparation for some long postponed track work and realized I had another map car… this time a Reading & Northern 60’ boxcar!!!

@Apples55,  the first three are just gorgeous and the box car is so unique, both the road and how the map is aplied.

I seem to be on a roll lately… just received these two Premier cars from the good folks at LOTS. Each car has different maps on each side - Canada/US on one side and US/Mexico on the other. Sweet additions to the roster of Map Cars!!!

This is likely a fantasy car......I doubt the NYO&W ever had one......but, it's nice looking and I acquired it.

Ooh… ooh… ooh… another one to look for!!! That is a fabulous car, Peter, even has the spur which passed through my neck of the wood heading to Scranton. I did a quick search online and couldn’t find one, but, WOW, MTH made a lot of different versions of these Map hoppers. Thanks for sending me on another hunt.

I think I need help… finding more cars, NOT an intervention!!! Just picked up another MAP hopper, this time from @Beth Marshall-The Public Delivery Track. Love the NYC connection.
