Not the required '12-hour law', but rather this: When moving forward & slowing to a stop, then pushing the DIR button, the crew should rotate 180-degrees! I would MUCH prefer this feature than, say doors on sprung hinges that open when my 48-fold too-large finger pushes on it. Has this been discussed?

IMHO, no thanks.
I have enough problems making sure the crew figures remain attached when removing and replacing a shell. I don't want to even think about how much harder it could be if there was a mechanism attached to them.

Now there is a new feature for the hoped/for, never-gonna-happen? future Vision line Super Chief A-B-B-A set: pop up figures in the A units that depend on direction to activate: reverse direction and the figures in the leading A unit's cab disappear and suddenly pop up in the other cab.
Fantastic.
That is the neatest idea! Lionel already has the mechanism in their postwar #50 gang car. It would just need to be adapted to fit inside a smaller area.
Or if they modified the automatic pantograph mechanisms to include a figure opposite the 'graph, they could add figures to the GG1 cabs.

OMG!!!!!!! Just one more thing to go wrong.

Next someone will want flushing toilet sounds or snoring from the sleeper car!
Some automatic features are not apparent to the unknowing, so I rate these as nice to have for my personal enjoyment, but not practical for guest operators and visitors. Automated crew figures falls into the "not apparent to the unknowing" category, so I would not speed extra money for this feature.
I like the idea!!!!
And how about a Fireman shoveling coal and the Engineer pulling on the whistle rope!
What I really wish for is that ALL powered units would run correctly out of the box each and every time. And that the paint and lettering is correct and not flake off.
