I've been running my 4-6-0 PS3 steam loco in conventional mode because the remote commander that it came with is not very responsive. Is there a way to run the engine with the smoke and sound turned off in conventional mode? I have gotten the engine to run that way a couple of times but have no idea how I did it.

In conventional you can turn smoke off with the adjustment pot under the tender. You also have one to lower volume. G
Thanks. I know there are adjustments but I have actually gotten the loco to run with no lights, sound, or smoke. It just starts moving without going through the startup.
That is not right. Is the drawbar fully attached? That is possible with DCS signal, where you use the throttle. Should not do that in conventional though. Try a feature reset 1Whistle and 5 Bells. G

That same thing happened to me with my PS3 RK SD70ACe. I was so weird. It was like a ghost train.
OK, I guess in a transition like that the engine doesn't see the watch dog but the processor is still on shut down and the power cycle causes it to respond in conventional and it takes off at what ever track voltage is. G
In general, what is the purpose of the feature reset?
To reset the engine features to the factory defaults, useful when things get confused. The factory reset does the same thing but also resets the locomotive ID number and removes it from the remote. Feature reset will frequently bring features like lights back when they don't appear to function properly.
