running double dose of steam engines, M1 and #90..what is your favorite steam engine?

The C&O M-1 Coal Turbine was actually closer to a diesel than a steamer.  While it had a coal stoked boiler, that's where the similarity to a steamer kinda' ended.  The steam turned a turbine which spins DC generators that drive DC traction motors.  It's a neat and impressive model, mine started life as a PS/1 model, but I did the PS/3 upgrade to have command control and better sounds.

For what it's worth, the real Strasburg #90 is a 2-10-0, and NOT a "2-8-0".

I love the big articulates. The R1/R2s of Great Northern, Y class of N&W, and the Yellowstones of DM&IR are some of my favorite.

I think the 4-6-6-4 Challengers are the best looking of the articulates.

I suppose I like the simple workhorses the best:

• Mikados
• Pacifics

I confess to being a big steam man, I go from the Big Boy on down the list to my smallest articulated, the PRR CC2 0-8-8-0.

One of my all-time favorite articulated steam locos is SP's unique Cab Forwards. They were big, powerful, and looked like they were running backwards. I'd love to have a model of an SP Cab Forward on my layout, too. Pity Lionel makes only an AC-12 Cab Forward. SP had a couple hundred with different wheel arrangements.
