Running into a problem

Sounds like a defective electronic reverse unit to me.  What happens if you let the unit sit with no power for a few minutes?  That should be enough to let it reset.

Unless there is some kind of warranty consideration, remove the body and reseat the board(s), the plugs and eyeball all the connections in general. These things do get loose or even break. I've fixed 2 or 3 bad solder joints on Williams/WBB equipment.

I have "fixed" more that one thing this way. It certainly may not do it, but it's free and easy, and you learn a little bit.

Don't use those old transformers.  Try it with a modern transformer.  Follow what D500 stated.  I think you are at the point to do what Alan stated.  I know a few people who own and are in love with those engines.  They are great runners.
