Other than the Lionel/K-Line (KCC) Santa Fe SD75m from a few years ago, has anyone ever imported a 2-rail version of this diesel engine in O scale? It was the last Santa Fe diesel to wear the warbonnet paint scheme prior to the Burlington Northern merger. Unfortunately the KCC version was an O scale 3-rail version with undersized flue tank and lack of exterior duct work on the fireman's side behind the cab.

As I recall, the overall details on the engine were quite nice except for those awful swing pilots and claw couplers, but the engine trucks were surprisingly well detailed. Did Overland Models (OMI) or anyone else import a brass version of this engine in O scale? Converting the KCC model to 2-rail is a real effort (i.e. pain in the ***) so my question is is there any other cost effective solution?

Thanks, nyccollector

Yes, OMI did import the Santa Fe SD75M in 2-Rail O Scale numerous years ago. I'm sure someone can provide the exact details.  On occasion they do appear on eBay and other auction sites.

OMI imported the SD75M in year 1996(#0544.1), year 2000(#0626.1) and year 2006 (#CA-1112). I saw one in O scale on John Smiths Texas Western layout back in 2005 and immediately thought something was missing from my HO scale Athearn Genesis models. I wish OMI would rerun these and several other diesels. I currently own two of these and would like at least one more. I've seen 4 or 5 of these pop up on ebay since November last year and several on liveauctioneers or stout auctions.

One feature that I like on the last run of these are the tinted side windows like on the prototype. I was waiting on Atlas to produce these since announcing the acquiring of K-line tooling several years ago, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Here is a pic of the one purchased several months ago. I think OMI did a nice job on these.
