Think I will continue to get my "pig parts" in the form of country ham from Cracker
Barrel south on the Interstate in York, or over in Lancaster at Golden Corral, in the
form of all the bacon you can clog your arteries with, rather two chintsy strips like
most places call breakfast.
Very much looking forward to breakfast at the dinner, the get together with Doc Peter fellow forum folks. Yummy!
How about bologna (trying to spell boloney) in the PA Dutch form of ring bologna and ring pudding? Speaking of pigs what about pig's feet jelly? They used sell that at Leesport Market and Auction.
What about dessert? Apple turnovers or apple fritters and of course the ultimate PA Dutch dessert is shoe fly pie(should really be called molasses pie).

Are any of those delicacies served with a prescription for an angioplasty?
Buy a jar of PA Dutch home made Apple Butter and spread it on Scrapple for a fantastic taste experience.
With these offerings, I think I will stay vegetarian.

I would have to agree with that about the angioplasty. I used to live near Reading PA in Muhlenberg Township, so I know about PA dutch foods.

Done right, Funnel cake, and berries.
I do like living in PA and enjoying the "treats" here, but I sure do miss Taylor's Ham sandwiches. For you folks not from Joisey, that's Pork Roll & Cheese on a hard kaiser roll... sometimes with egg. Must be either Taylor or Trenton brand. No other will do.
Nobody here can make it like a good NJ Diner.

Mmmm...Taylor Pork Roll and Rapa Scrapple are great breakfast, lunch or dinner staples.
If they serve scrapple in piddling amounts, like they do bacon slices in most places, in
York, if you can still walk when the halls close, drive over to East Earl, Pa., to Maple
Shade buffet, and stuff yourself with scrapple.
MMMMMMMMM................ love scrapple, fried or not.
Also love soppressata, known as "soupies". It's a coal region thing. Expensive, but good.
One of these years I am going to go to York. I'll try scrapple. Nobody seems to have died from eating it. I wouldn't want Farmer Bill to think I am a sissy.
I eat scrapple with my breakfast every week. Once a week. It is really good, you all must try it.
Bistro 24 in Exton, Pa. Has some of the best during breakfast time but breakfast is available 24 hrs. a day. On your way to York, stop by.
btw I do not own or work for bistro 24, just a customer.
We very seldom eat scrapple when we stay over in Lancaster as we prefer more traditional bacon, eggs, home fries and or waffles for breakfast that is served at our hotel. People who eat scrapple have to accept that they are eating a perfectly seasoned breakfast item made from discarded pork body parts.
At this point it appears this food is part of the York tradition. The slogan should be "buy trains, eat scrapple but make sure that the grading is at least C-5" .
If you stay in Lancaster, is THAT Golden Corral there open for breakfast during the week? Some in high tourist areas are, but most are not, and one that was is now
down to just three days due to low weekday volume of breakfast eaters. The one
near Williamsburg, Va., high tourist area, is, or was.
When I am at York or in Lancaster, I do not even consider eating anywhere - breakfast, lunch, and dinner - else but at:
Hershey Farm Restaurant
240 Hartman Bridge Rd. (Rt. 896)
Ronks, PA 17572
(800) 827-8635
For honest-to-goodness home-style cooking, comfort-food, with great buffet variety or as table service, I have eaten at this restaurant ever since attending York TCA Meet since years ago. It is well worth the 30-min. drive from York to get to this restaurant. I consider the food to be flawless.
For example, at two meals, lunch and dinner, on the same day, I pigged-out and tasted the following, having gone a couple times to the buffet for plates-full of:
roasted chicken; dumplings and gravy; roast pulled-pork and cabbage w/ sauerkraut; real mashed potatoes; fresh corn; fresh green beans; sweet potato; pizza; turkey w/ dressing & gravy; ham; beef stew; chicken potpie. And there was a whole lot more variety available that I passed by (a guy can only eat so-much. )
Yes! That boy can eat!!!
My sole interest in recommending this restaurant here is that you have a really good time and enjoy the experience.
