Brick addition and a saw tooth roof with skylights will add some variety to your building.

Joe,
As I go around Connecticut and New England, there are many old industrial buildings which have additions that were added piecemeal and then fell into neglect and disuse. That's the kind of look I was trying to get on the brick section. The buildings on the layout are intended to be typical of pre-1940s construction, although the motor vehicles and most of the trains go up to about 1955.

I selected two window panes for skylights and cut frames in which to mount them.
Skylight and roof pieces.
Skylights assembled.
Extension complete. The extension and main building required further reinforcement in their interiors to strengthen this long narrow structure and preserve squareness and alignment because neither has a rear wall.

Mel, the roof windows will give it a lot of character

Thanks Mark. I agree. I like sawtooth roofs with skylights, although these are a bit abbreviated.

The extension looks fabulous, Mel... it could clearly be an impressive standalone structure!!!
To me, the shades in the windows give great interest to the overall appearance.
I agree they are abbreviated, but as a background building front, it all makes sense.
The extension with two skylights has been added to the model, which is now complete.
On layout.

Looks great Mel!

Now that is one heck of a building Mel. Sorry I haven't popped my nose in here for way too much longer than I should have. I'll have to keep an eye out. Great work.
Really excellent job on that background structure. Evokes styling of the early 1900's and should fit well on your layout
