Sometime around 1960, the Seaboard Air Line simplified its classic "citrus" paint scheme on its passenger diesels, replacing the multi-striped design with solid pastel green (that many mistake for white) and a red stripe. I can understand their wanting to reduce the cost of keeping the paint nice on the passenger engines, but the choice of color has always seemed unusual to me.
Does anyone know if there is a "back story" on how this color was chosen? Also, were their final few EMD E-units delivered in this pastel green, or were they originally "citrus"?
