I read through past posts about this subject and it seems that for the 60' RailKing passenger cars 1:64 figures would be ideal, but they aren't available in any meaningful quantity.

S-scale figures were mentioned which don't exist.

Next came 1:75 which some said were too small for those cars.

Everyone agreed that 1:43, 1:48, and 1:50 were too big (heads stuck up past windows)

Then Railking people (whatever size they are) do fit, but you have to paint them.

Lionel pack # 6-83653 purportedly fit (whatever size those are), but it says they are for 21" cars.

GGD Little People were mentioned.  No size given.

Yikes !

Anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks,

John

Santa brought some of these over a year ago...still haven't gotten around to trying them in any cars to know if the size works

They claim to be 1:50...I know you mentioned that 1:50 was too big but they seem pretty small to me...I'll see if I can find time to try one or two tonight.

Thanks.  Much appreciated.

Railking figures are S scale.  I get the 120 packs which have about 80 seated figures.  I set up an assembly line to paint them.  I glue the feet to scrap lumber using hot melt glue.  When I'm done everything else, I remove them and paint the feet.  Painting them is a PITA, but I'm too cheap to pay for the painted RK figures.  I only get the painted RK sets for dome cars.

Bachmann waist up passenger figures are painted and work well for a little less than $1 each.

Most of those figures that Canes RR linked are a bit too big.  Plus, the paint job on those usually has to be touched up.

The GGD figures will fit, but may need to be trimmed.

Besides the above, I've also used BEEPeople.  They are larger than the RK figures and usually need to have there butts trimmed or they sit too high.

Sorry for the delay in my response...I finally tried out a few of the ones that I ordered from Amazon noted in my previous post...had to pick thru but found a lot in there that work depending on the type of seating...doesn't look too bad to me...even got a few in the observation level which is really tight...haven't tried in our Tri Rail or Amtrak cars yet...if little man wants people on all of these cars we're gonna need to buy a lot more of these.

Looks good Canes RR.  I’ve used the Evemodel figures and as I recall, the smaller (skinny) ladies fit well as did some of the male figures, but most were too big.  Looks like you did better with the assortment that you got.

I also should have mentioned before that I’ve also used the Lionel 24 pack.  They do fit well, but as John said, they are kind of scary.  And they are sticky to the touch like the paint never cures.

For the most part MTH figures fit well, but there are a few spots where the MTH (and every other brand) figures need to be trimmed.  The diner is the worst case.  Here’s an example of the carnage left after several amputations for MTH, Evemodel and GGD figures.

And a comparison shot of Evemodel, RMT, Lionel and MTH figures.
