For the last 35 years when visiting my mother-in-law in San Dimas Calif. i enjoyed passing through the mainly O Gauge and HO store there. I sometimes found a building or people for my layout but all the lionel, and other gauge stuff I could only browse. Heard that the owner  died a year ago and the store hasn't bought anything new since and yet the store is FULL of so many engines and cars. They must have had a storage room to empty as there are some interesting things and many steam engines. Last week alot of stuff was 30% off and I missed sale as I wanted to get the power transmission lines cheap. Oh well, Hope it sticks it out or someone buys the store.

Flags,  Good info about the apts above since so many in 3 rail. I still went to see what I could find to accessorize. Retirement is OK except for the extreme heat in Az. deserts. Looking at selling and moving up the hill unto the plateau at 5000 feet. There I could be 15' cooler so when 115 in Phx it is only 100 there. OOO. but the nights are really cool.  Trying to play in the heat is too tuff. So all I do during the week is watch the market. Next best thing. But if we do move I have to tear down and start all over again. Planning a new layout is so much fun and thinking of going from 11X 36 to 22X24.( a 2 car garage)

Amazing!!!  They've had the "store closing sale" going on for quite some time now.  And the fact that they STILL have a good selection of stock only proves how saturated the market is.  Years ago a sale like that would deplete the stock in no time.

RockyM. I agree with the market being saturated and guess that is why some only build models to order as producing and have it sit on the shelf is bad for business. It is harder and harder to get Atlas to build a new model and they have discontinued some models as the desire goes. I can't blame but a little on the great recession as hobbies do well in slow time. And many of O guage people are oldeerrrr and we are slipping away. I see more for sale in Ebay and then these big stores with all the lionel on the shelves. I got too much stuff, Atlas cars and MTH engines and like an idiot I still buy stuff when I have too much. I'd rather buy a freight car than go out to dinner and least it doesn't go to flowing over my belt.
