Western Maryland Shay No.6 visits my layout.

The Shay's whistle is better than the video depicts and it is my fault that it is not better. The problem was running the camera and the Legacy remote at the same time.

With my right hand I was panning the camera and adjusting the zoom, and with my left hand I was running the Legacy remote, held high above my head, and it was not that easy. I had to hold it high over my head because otherwise my body intefered with the Legacy base, which is/was about 36 feet from where I was standing close to the logging spur.

Thanks for watching!

Alex

PS. The Shay belongs to my wife - she got it for Christmas.

"Your wife has excellent taste."

The first time she saw a (real) Shay, looking at the Shay geared side, she said that it looked as though it were floating over the rails. Since then she has been an admirer of these engines.

I am having fun with this video camera with all its features, such as touch-screen to select the object to track and focus, 10x optical zoom, and high-definition. These videos look great and sharp even on a 60" TV.

Thanks for your comments!

Alan,

Yes, that is correct! If you have a large, HD screen, select the 1080 Quality option, and then it looks great.

The camera is a Canon Vixia HF M40. High Definition, 10X zoom, with a built in 16-GB memory plus two SD flash memory slots.

I bought it from B&H Photo and I believe it may have been a close out as the newer, similar models are a bit higher. I can't get over the features that it has, most of which I have not used yet, and how well it works.

The touch-screen takes just a few seconds to get used to it, and then it is top notch. They provide a stylus in case you can't hit just the right spot with your fingers.

The camera is really small, and now I wish I had used it for the trip around the layout I posted a few days ago. I used a Flip camera for that other video.

Thanks for your feedback.

Alex
