I have been given and bought a bunch of the older Lionel 0-22 "O" gauge switches.  I've cleaned most of them up pretty good.  BUT, I was told to use ENDUST on the Black Plastic housings, etc.  Well, ENDUST is no longer available here in Calgary.

What can I substitute in place of it.  I tried using PLEAGE furniture spray but it just make a mess on the plastic.

Any help here??

Maybe Pledge furniture wipes with lemon scent or Kleen Guard furniture polish. I have read where the Johnson Co. changed the way they make Pledge furniture polish. From what I have read, the older furniture polish was much better than their new formula. That's why I suggested Pledge furniture wipes.

Larry,

I use the ArmorAll, spray it lightly on a rag, wipe the switch parts down, let it dry and buff it out, works great with no mess and never hurts the Bakealite, when used in this manner, and yes we use it the same way on the old ZW & KW transformers.  All our stuff still looks great.  Just gave my Brother a KW transformer for Christmas, maintained in this manner, it still looks like new and operates like new.

It works Larry give it a try.

Please don't overlook the dishwasher solution before moving on to waxing/ArmorAll-ing.

In the not too distant future, there will be a pretty good size load with ZW cases, KW cases, O22 switch motor covers, O22 switch controller covers, etc. going into my dishwasher  The hot water/soap/sterilization process cleans any grease, stains, etc. from the bakelite first and then the final coat of Pledge brings it up to a high shine.

Please note that, because I haven't done this on *this* dishwasher since I've moved to this house, I will try it first using one cruddy, easily replaced piece to make sure it doesn't melt.

I have cleaned all sorts of things in the dishwasher using Cascade Complete (e.g., glass light shades, salt-covered classic car hubcaps, etc.) and I am always pleased by the results.
