Best thing to do is call the post office or your favorite shipper. Don't try to hide it because the fines are substantial.

I was hoping that JT would chime in since they ship all over the place.

It will freeze (Turn to a solid) which might be an issue to consider. Though I have used smoke fluids after they thawed with no ill effects.

 From the MSDS sheet posted.

Melting Point: 48- 50*F (8-10*C)

Same applies to model paints this time of year.  Frozen acrylic paints are not the same when they thaw IMO.

OK. I have to jump in here before this thread gets out of control. I had responded earlier to Trainman9's question that he posted here first before contacting Mega-Steam. I think I answered his question in detail via private email.

Mega-Steam is not considered flammable by industrial standards. Smoke fluid is a liquid, highly refined oil with a very high temperature flash point...high enough not to be considered flammable.

Smoke fluid can and will freeze during shipping from time to time especially in cold climates. This causes no ill effects on our product. Just place the bottle in room temperature and allow the smoke fluid to thaw. Then, shake well before using and all will be well.

FYI: Smoke fluid does not burn in the smoke unit...it vaporizes into tiny tiny droplets that reflect light and so has the appearance of smoke. It is vapor. Nothing is burned or flammable. We use only the best and purest ingredients in our production which includes oil.  It is basically, highly refined and purified model train oil. If you mention the word smoke to shippers they go into panic mode.  Mega-Steam has professional and honest relationships with all shipping companies includiing UPS, FedEx, and USPS.  Our local Post Office knows exactly what we are shipping and welcomes our business. As we enter into our 10th year of business, we look forward to shipping orders in the same manner that we have built our reputation on in providing fast reliable service. Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to provide this insight.

JT's Mega-Steam

Just found this year old thread with a search of "frozen smoke".  Maybe a good time to revitalize it considering the Arctic Vortex that has descended on many of us in the US.

My layout is on the 2nd floor of a 28x30 external garage which, unfortunately, is unheated.   I just discovered that all my small plastic bottles of JT's Mega-Steam smoke fluid are frozen solid. I came searching for an answer to "can I still use it when it thaws out?"  Seems I can.  That's a good thing.   On another note, FWIW, I also have several glass bottles of MTH ProtoSmoke and none of them are frozen, or even close to being solidified.  All bottles were sitting on the same shelf.  Seems the glass bottles afforded a bit more insulation against the cold.  Our temperature last night dipped to Zero with wind chills of about -20.  All smoke bottles are now sitting in the warm house and looking forward to returning to their native liquid state and smoking up the train room one day soon!

There is no fine for shipping Mega- steam, Trainworld shipped mine with 2 Rmt, Trains,

in a cardboard box, like any other shipment. and UPS brought to my door step.

I betcha Nick and the gain did not say a word , as it went out the door.

It does not carry a flammable classification, or the msds, sheet would identify it,

and it does not carry osha issues. It is something that you do not want to drink. (per the bottle.  Send it,  with no worries,   been in the transportation business since '78,

Chemtrec would require notifcation on the bottles, if spillage was to occur, and provide

and 800 emergency response number.   Send IT!
