I have a few Lionel Legacy Locomotives that the tender is way too far back from the locomotive. I feel sorry for the fireman who has to jump from the tender to the loco with a shovel full of coal. To help him out I want to shorten the draw bar. I do run tight curves O48 in a few spots but I think I can get the spacing closer. Has anything done this to their locomotives?

Is the drawbar a simple piece of metal or plastic (no wiring)? If so, just make a new one that's the length you want, drill a hole in each end, and give it a try. You can always put the original drawbar back.
I've done this to a MTH 2-8-0 and a Weaver 4-6-0 with great results.
I also tried putting a deck plate on the 2-8-0 but didn't have much success, I think the radius of the plate has to be more precise than what I made it plus I wanted to put a mini-hinge on it and didn't have one at the time. I still have the deck plate piece just haven't found a hinge for it yet.
Oh yeah, I use 072 and 054 curves so that may be a factor.
It does have the IR port on it but but that looks like it will be easily removed and then can be added onto whatever new drawbar I make. I will have to search out some metal to make it. Any suggestions on that?
This subject was discussed just a few days ago, over on the 3-Rail Trains Forum, and is now on the third page. I think the subject was "Steam engine & Tender gap".
