HI:

I am very drawn to a purchase of the Lionel H7 because I love articulateds and because of "the sickness". But I wonder am I just going after another typical articulated with the same old features?

I don't know much about this Lionel item and would like comments to help me make my decision. Thanks for any constructive input.

Bob. Which version? The newer legacy or the earlier Railsounds 5.0 version?

The tooling and detail is basically the same on both which is very nicely done.  Other that the newer H7 having legacy the big difference is the sound set. The legacy versions pretty much the same sound set as other recent legacy articulated power. The earlier C&O and UP H7s with Railsounds 5.0 each have a unique sound set. I have the C&O railsounds 5.0 version. It has a very unique hooter whistle and great sounds all around.

Bob,

I had the exact thoughts about purchasing the newer Legacy version H7 as I already had the Joshua Cowen Series version. However after having a conversation with Mike Reagan who indicated there were some additional enhancements (can't think of what they were at the moment) that were not obvious to the obvious (and he should know) I decided to make the investment.  Besides it might be interesting to do a lash up just for grins and giggles.

It is the only articulated loco, and one of only two non-diesel, that I have two of the UP model (changed the number of one of them to 3591).  I love 'em.  It looks fantastic with all the applied detailed pipes, tanks, valves, fittings.  They run very well (but so do all other Legacy locos I have), although one of them is rather fussy to set up well on the track.  Below I was double-heading them - something that proved difficult but not impossible to get them to do.  Boiler stick out of 72" curves is rather extreme, but then the H7 is with any big articulated loco.
