Hey guys. I just wanted to give kudos to Steve at MrMuffin's Trains.
Background.
Saturday evening, I received my custom run Lionel Amtrak E9's from Steve. It was late so first thing Sunday morning, I unboxed the set and checked them out. They looked perfect.
I applied a little grease to the gears and oiled the journals with just a drop. One at a time I placed them on the track to test out.
I placed "406" on the track first, addressed Engine "1" and fired it up. Lights work, engine moves but NO SOUND. Immediately, I get very frustrated and expect the worse since my luck with Lionel engines in the last 3 years has not been stellar. I take it off the track.
"405" (lead unit) was next. The same process, runs perfect but I also have sound and all the bells and whistles. I try "406" again, no sound. I try a reset. No sound.
So, after complaining loudly to my wife about my problem, I sit down and send Steve an email with my complaints.
This is the kudo part....Steve answers my email almost immediately and this is early Sunday morning. He gently explains how only the "lead unit" has sound. He also explained how this is documented in the 2020 Lionel Catalog for the E8's.
I really felt like an idiot when I read his response. But then, I am a grouchy old man who does not read the fine print.
Thanks again Steve for helping me out and for an immediate response to my concerns.
I will post some pics in a separate post.
