As long as I can remember being into toy trains, the JERSEY CENTRAL LINES or CNJ has been my favorite railroad both as 3-rail 0/0-27 and also as 2 rail 1:1 scale!

In the early years it was only perhaps a standard gauge Blue Comet, the 2341 and 611/621 switchers. In the past 25+ years, CNJ product availability has literally exploded with nice offerings from many 3-rail manufacturers. However, I like em all regardless of gauge, scale or manufacturer!.

Show us your favorite CNJ model.

Mine has to be the RMT BEEFs!

If MTH hadn't canceled the 3/2 version of the Trainmaster, there would be one on my layout.

I always had a soft spot for the Baldwin cab units.  The freight units had a longer career than the passenger ones, but both very attractive locomotives.

It is hard to find a favorite for me on the CNJ though because so much of it was unique to the CNJ or least rare.  I saw the GP40Ps in all their paint scheme outside of the fading disco stripe some now wear in their greatly rebuilt form.  Liked them.  I liked the flat long hood of the GP7Ps.  In steam the Camelbacks were simply an anachronism at the end while the Pacifics had a lot of class.    For my home layout, my CNJ roster will consist eventually of all the major equipment that ran 1953-1956 so I can catch the end of steam as well as all those interesting diesel designs.  Now about those steel commuter cars ..... some day maybe a scale version?  Hope so!

What a great thread, Walter!  But then again, I'm a bit biased as the CNJ is also my favorite road.  My grandfather was an engineer on the CNJ  (see photos below), and I've been a fan my whole life.  My O-gauge CNJ roster consists of over 25 locomotives and probably 100 or so other pieces of rolling stock...I can't pick a favorite!!

Here's my grandfather at the controls of CNJ #107 as it takes on water and coal at the yard in Ashley, PA...

And here he is (on the right) posing with a co-worker in front of CNJ #1601 in Wilkes-Barre, PA...

And here's a pair of CNJ Geeps and a CNJ caboose currently in service on my small basement layout.  The caboose weathering was done by Steve P. (or "SIRT" as we know him here on the forum)...

mikado 4501...Although the first MTH Premier BC engine was PS-1, there is a second MTH Premier version and different roadnumber BC engine that came factory equipped with PS-2. Also, MTH offered, with that PS-2 loco, a set of matching BC passenger cars...but the cars were different names than the original 5 car BC set. Hopefully the new MTH Premier PS-3 BC due later this year will have the missing/remaining BC car names to allow one to recreate all 3 BC train sets in a prototypical fashion.

PaPaT...Those Rail King cars look better, I think with the Premier 'Bullet' locomotive as only the BC diner actually had 6-wheel trucks.

Either way, any CNJ train or locomotive looks sharp to me.

JoeyA...My family worked on the CNJ too. My grandfather on the Sandy Hook steamers and my uncle was a tugboat deckhand.

Thanks.

Same here. I loved the Camelbacks I would see from my schoolyard along the tracks in Point Pleasant on the NY&LB.

Here's my first MU, an MTH GP-9 and Williams GP-7 with PS2 upgrade. The GP-9 was having trouble with 18 cars on my 2.5% curved upgrade, hence the MU.

At the engine house. The RS-3 in the background is also a favorite. A Weaver with PS2 upgrade, and an awesome sounding RS-11 sound file.

Having fun on the NY&LB!

Gary - Love your Bayhead loop!  I am modeling the NY&LB in 2 Rail O and having a heck of a time finding the CNJ equipment for it.  So far I have a Reading Weaver Pacific that I am going to have converted from three rail to two and modify into an 820 series Pacific, an old Kemtron GP7 that I need to put the lighting equipment box on the end of the long hood, a Weaver RS3, and a few Walthers passenger cars that can make up some of my business equipment.  Really looking for accurate CNJ commuter cars.  On the PRR side of things I'm completely covered.
