Whether it's a locomotive, rolling stock, or vehicle, show us your custom paint job(s). People like AMCDave and brotherlove do fantastic paint jobs, but it doesn't have to be perfect to share. The big manufacturers have a lot of variety but that can't satiate everyone, especially those of us in love with more obscure railroads or rolling stock.

I'll get it started with my first custom paint job from a few years ago. This is a Lionel New Jersey Transit GP-40 repainted to resemble a White Pass and Yukon Route DL-535. This took a while to do, but you've got to start somewhere.

Well this doesn't compare to the quality examples above.

By repainting and custom decaling some prewar 3/16" O scale metal American Flyer passenger cars and equipping them with post war S gauge trucks I was finally able to run my original paint S gauge 350 "Royal Blue" engine with some never produced royal blue color cars:

The car names are fictitious but the numbers are authentic for the B&O "Royal Blue".

The cars were painted with rattle can paint from Walmart. Believe it or not the name of the color on the can?.....What else..."Royal Blue"!

I plan to repaint and redecal the engine as a winter project.

hello banjoflyer

I REALLY LIKE it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Someday I would like to paint my Williams F-3's and Williams 15" aluminum passenger cars like that but don't have the cars yet as they are pretty pricey.  Did you make those decals for the cars ?  Really a OUTSTANDING job you did !!

Back in the mid-1980's, I wanted to have an O-Gauge model of the C&NW Peninsula "400," which ran between Chicago and Ishpeming, MI. While it was a long train between Chicago and Green Bay, north of Green Bay it was often, especially in its later years before becoming bi-level, one, two, or three coaches.

I took a Preamble Express F3, and two 0-27 Amtrak coaches, and the photos show the result. Not the high quality of many airbrush schemes, to be sure, but it has served me well and has stood the test of time. Now has a horn added, and still runs on occasion.

The last photo shows it in service on the PA layout, shortly after completion.

Champ Decals were used.

Andy could you repost just the beavertail (I assume)?. It won't load for me. I only get the top half, over and over.. Did you make that? Or is that an AF I haven't seen?

More imperfection. Better lines and finish than the brush from the forgotten nail polish produced on the toy switcher preceding this, but a good example of a color combo to skip experimenting with....

Alright time for me to add one.

This is custom from top to bottom. This is a 3d print of a White Pass and Yukon Route GE Shovelnose diesel.

Here is the prototype.

My model is sits on a postwar alco frame with u36c 3 axle trucks. This has been in the planning stages for a while and I just finished the painting and decals a month ago. There are still a few detail projects to work on, but it will run around the tracks and look good while it does it too.IMG_20160903_094441052

The pinstriping is automotive pinstriping tape. I had to buy it direct from 3m because it is so skinny.IMG_20160913_182846490

I had the thunderbird printed by a vinyl printing decal company called doityourselflettering.com

IMG_20160913_201351676

Dry transfer decals from Ozark Miniatures CDS line.

Adriatic,

Here it is again

I was trying to mimic other AF products. I made it out of one of the 1122 coaches. Just cut off one end and reattached it at an angle and filled in the resulting triangle shaped hole on each side.  lol

Top cote is Rustoleum Hammered Copper.

I've painted several pieces on my layout and then some.  Here's a quick look at a few, starting with a MTH 2-rail Premier Norfolk Southern ES44DC, a couple MTH 100 ton hoppers converted to Saskatchewan, (2 of 12) fitted and lowered on Atlas O roller bearing trucks and Kadee couplers, and an Atlas O 60' boxcar in UP.
